2014 Oratorical Contest Winners

Winners Hattie Foley and Noah Pyzik of the 2014 Oratorical Contest sponsored by the Breakfast Optimist Club of Kalamazoo (BOCK)

Congratulations to Hattie Foley and Noah Pyzik  for winning the 2014 Breakfast Optimist Club of Kalamazoo Oratorical Contest.  Each student spoke on the topic of “How My Passions Impact the World.”  The contest was held on February 22, 2014.  Noah and Hattie competed against Michael Williams, Scott Solomon and Katelyn Kring.  All are students at Portage Central High School.

Both students will participate at the Michigan District Optimist Region 1 competition at Muskegon Baker College on April 12, 2014 with other students from the Grand Rapids, Ludington and Muskegon area.  If they win at this level, they will proceed to the competition at the 3rd Quarter Michigan District Optimist meeting in Bay City on May 17th.

The Oratorical Contest is a program of Optimist International which gives youth a chance to speak to the world. More than $150,000 in college scholarships funded by the Optimist International Foundations is awarded annually from this program.

A special thank you to the Greater Kalamazoo Association of Realtor’s for sharing their building for this event.
