The Breakfast Optimist Club of Kalamazoo (BOCK) was founded in September of 1988 and has been working with young people and/or organizations related to youth in our community for over 28 years.
We are chartered as a Member of Optimist International (OI). This gives us the right to use the Optimist name and provides BOCK with services and programs offered by Optimist International.
The regular weekly meetings feature guest speakers and fellowship which offer the Members an opportunity to learn, grow and improve ourselves. These meetings help to reinforce our commitment and allow us to take pride in our accomplishments.
Each Optimist Club operates autonomously. This means they operate independently of each other. We choose our own activities, elect our own officers and raise our own funds. BOCK’s service activities are based on the needs of the community. What a Club can do is limited only by the imagination and resources of its members. We are open to any ideas you know of or have a passion for that will further our mission of Bringing Out the Best in Kids.
BOCK has also become a champion for those dealing with childhood cancer. We hold fundraisers such as an annual golf outing and Team Trivia nights with the proceeds given to the Bronson Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit and cancer research at John Hopkins University.
We are also a part of the Michigan District Optimists, the second largest district of Optimist International. The Michigan District consists of only the lower peninsula.
What is Optimist International?
Optimist International is one of the largest and most active service-club organizations. It acts as a “clearing house” of ideas and development tools that can be drawn upon by any Optimist Club when needed. Be sure to check out their OI Facebook page.
